of all places in the world, i was born in leonardwood, missouri. i spent the first 6 months of my life there before moving to germany, then on to new jersey, maryland, virginia, and back to germany to finish off high school. why such a nomadic childhood you ask? well because i am the son of an army chaplain, which makes me both military brat and preacher's kid. very fitting that i go by "pk" eh?

after graduating high school, i attended northwestern university and got myself a degree in industrial engineering. it was around this time that i realized one could actually ENJOY one's job, so i decided to render useless my 4 year degree from one of the most prestigious colleges in america and instead pursue a career in web design, utilising my god-given creative talents that had not exactly been *encouraged* while growing up. unlike my decision to study engineering at NU (go cats?), this would prove to be one of the best decisions i've ever made. although unfortunately paired with this *good* decision was a rather *poor* decision to move to san francisco upon graduating.

san francisco was most definitely not the place for me, but if i had to find a silver lining, i guess i can say living there has made the experience of living in new york city all the more sweet. i moved to nyc in the spring of 2002, and shortly thereafter fell in with r/ga (professionally) and redeemer presbyterian church (spiritually). twas a good 5-year stretch where i emerged professionally and grew spiritually, but at the same time, when i turned 30 in 2007, i felt the ONE thing necessary in my life...was change.

so here i am now, some 3+ years later, thriving professionally as a freelance art director / animator in nyc while seeking out optimal outcomes for many key variables in my life (in other words, seeking true love).

slackluster is a way of life.

it's a mindset that life is something to be thoroughly enjoyed, not endured.

it is doing things because you want to do them, not because you're supposed to do them.

it is self-actualization...a process of cumulative self-discovery, where each daily experience contributes to better understanding yourself and your place in the world.

it is longing to connect both with your true self and others who would be interested in that true self.

it is creation...and sharing that creation with others.

it is passion for the beautiful things in life and contempt for the institutions that would rob us of the joys we so desperately long for as human beings.

it is acceptance that life is truly short, so we may as well live it up...savouring every morsel, every inspiration, every experience.

madebypk.com is my portfolio site. if you're interested in hiring me for a project, check out my reel and be in touch.

edibleshorts.tv is my place for all personal video and animation projects.

wetmilk.com is my experimental playground, where anything goes. (launching in 2011.)

introversion.com was my first major personal design project. it put me on the map back in early 2001. i have now retired the site, considering it a 10 year project (2001-2011), but stay tuned for news on how i will be3 re-presenting the 10 years of content, hopefully by end of 2011.
