Top 5 tracks (2011)
These are my personal favorite and most-played tracks of 2011. They brought me considerable listening pleasure, and perhaps you’ll enjoy as well. ** Look for the download link below to grab all 5 tracks (+honorable mentions). **
5. Maxwell – Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)
One of those old school songs that I’d heard before & loved but never got around to tracking down until this year. I overplayed the hell out of this song in Autumn/Winter 2011.
4. Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx – Nightcall
As I was watching Drive earlier this year (one of my favorite movies of 2011), I kept thinking about how much ass the soundtrack kicks. I subsequently got the soundtrack and listened to it over and over, although this one track in particular was on repeat the most.
3. LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yrself Clean
I usually start listening to this track right around the 3:00 point, but every once in a while I enjoy the very slow buildup of the first couple minutes.
2. Parov Stelar – Booty Swing
Shazam’d this from that Las Vegas “elevator” commercial. Love that vintage sound.
1. Richard Hawley – Tonight The Streets Are Ours
I of course have “Exit Through the Gift Shop” to thank for this gem. If I discovered this track just on its own, I probably wouldn’t have loved it so much, but its use in one of my favorite movies of all time was brilliant. I listened to this more than any other track during this summer’s artist residency in Berlin.
Honorable mentions: M83 – Midnight City (I listened to this song on repeat an entire Bolt Bus trip from NYC to DC.) Empire of the Sun – We Are The People (For some reason I especially loved listening to this track whilst riding the subway & walking the streets of NYC at night.) Richard Cheese – Down With The Sickness (2011 is the year I discovered the genius that is Richard Cheese.) Flight of the Conchords – Hurt Feelings (“We’re vincible.” Classic FOTC.) Cinnamon Chasers – The World Is Yours (Another one of those songs I’ve loved listening to whilst running and walking around the streets of New York.)
